Flyin’ Home was initially inspired by the the alcohol ink colors, indigo and espresso. As I worked on this the ink started moving in ways that I have never seen them move before. I discovered something in moving inks on this one. The soft wispy edges that have feathery appearances to them. I continued this technique for the rest of the piece. I absolutely love how this one turned out and it felt like a piece that just took flight in my heart. I then realized that the composition wasn’t quite right, and I went in with a tiny paint brush and brought some lines and details out. I had to force myself to stop on this one! I loved working on this one so much and I wanted to keep that flow going. I can always do more though. But nothing like discovering a new technique. Alcohol ink is endlessly fascinating to me and new things are possible with it in every piece I work on. Discovery is half the fun! This one represents freedom. Freedom of flight in our dreams. Freedom to go where we want...
I have been an artist all my life, ever since I could hold a pencil. I have always loved to draw and paint. My styles have varied over the years from realism to abstract and everything in between. The mediums I most enjoy working with are: oil, prismacolor, charcoal, graphite, watercolor, pen & ink, alcohol ink, and acrylic. Currently I am experiencing a mammoth amount of creative freedom working on abstract art. In 2013 I donated one of my kidneys to a young woman who had only been born with one very diseased kidney. Since then she has been thriving and going to college and living her life. I consider this such a privilege and i'm so happy I was a match for her. I have lived all over the country.
