This piece was done with sumi brushes as well as alcohol ink on Canson oil paper. I love the juxtaposition between the hard lines of the sumi black and the color of the alcohol ink. Sumi can be controlled, and brush strokes can be purposeful. But alcohol ink is always unpredictable … always! I had fun with a pallet knife in applying the ink to the oil paper. The rough texture of this paper made some very cool patterns.
Strangled Adjustment is a name that came to mind today. This piece had another name entirely. The reasoning behind the new name is that this is a rescue from an event that happened a few days ago in my studio. A heater caught fire and smoked up the entire contents of my studio. The structure of the studio is fine. However, everything inside suffered smoke damage. The smoke is from a kerosene heater, so it is oily and nearly impossible to clean off completely, especially art. I had to throw a lot of art (and supplies) away, it was just too far gone. I have been an artist all my life, ever since I could hold a pencil. I have always loved to draw and paint. My styles have varied over the years from realism to abstract and everything in between. The mediums I most enjoy working with are: oil, prismacolor, charcoal, graphite, watercolor, pen & ink, alcohol ink, and acrylic. Currently I am experiencing a mammoth amount of creative freedom working on abstract art. In 2013 I donated one of my kidneys to a young woman who had only been born with one very diseased kidney.
