This technique is inspired by the art of sumi. I used pallet knives on canson oil paper. I For color I used alcohol ink. Typically, alcohol ink is used on synthetic surfaces, not absorbent paper. However, if I act quickly, I can get it to do some interesting things by using a pallet knife. Sometimes you can re-wet it by adding a bit of 99% isopropyl alcohol. Sometimes not. In this case it made the edges softer, in places. This one reminds me of something in space. Something mysterious, like dark matter. Scientists really don’t know what dark matter is, only that it exists and in massive quantities! I also loved the show ‘Dark Matter’, even though it ended abruptly after season 5. I still loved it! It was just a lot of fun. So this piece is an homage to that show and to the mystery of dark matter in general. It is simple and clean. It has a lot of negative space, which I love. It’s hard for me to create pieces with negative space but this technique enables me to do it. I act qui...
I have been an artist all my life, ever since I could hold a pencil. I have always loved to draw and paint. My styles have varied over the years from realism to abstract and everything in between. The mediums I most enjoy working with are: oil, prismacolor, charcoal, graphite, watercolor, pen & ink, alcohol ink, and acrylic. Currently I am experiencing a mammoth amount of creative freedom working on abstract art. In 2013 I donated one of my kidneys to a young woman who had only been born with one very diseased kidney. Since then she has been thriving and going to college and living her life. I consider this such a privilege and i'm so happy I was a match for her. I have lived all over the country. I primarily grew up in Woodland...

MARVELLOUS, KC!! Yes!! The interrelationship of Paradox between...Quantum Physics, Spiritual Spaciousness and Beauty ( thru the Arts) has been an open dialogue with my dad’s genius ( and his “isms”) since I was a child. Darkness and Light factors more and more in my life experiences now than ever before. Exploring materials that encourage expressions of that relationship is likewise my current path...for me, Japanese papers and mixed media is on the next horizon...Wonderful awareness and artistic statement... Thanks Laurel! I can only imagine the discussions at your family dinner! How interesting they must have been. I'm still experimenting with new substrates and alcohol ink. It can be very frustrating and also illuminating. It often enables me to communicate something that I otherwise wouldn't be able to do. Let me know how your experiments go, I'd be very interested. Cheers!
